Key Features of Stingray fish leather:
The stingray skin is considered to be 25 times stronger than the cowhide and has a unique texture which makes it look like pearl beaded. This skin is covered in countless tiny calcium-rich bubbles that resist scratching, scuffing, and puncturing with ease thus making it super tough. As an aquatic hide, It is naturally resistant to water.Unlike synthetic leather, the fibers are 3-D with a very compact fiber structure making the skin very difficult to tear.
The most common sized stingray skin used for production is 11-inch skin. Whereas 15 inch is the largest size that can be used in production but a stingray is rarely caught that yields a 15-inch skin. About only 5% of the stingrays provide this large skin.
There are bumps and beads in the caviar finish stingrays which are completely natural. The stingray skins have a calcium deposit which is represented as a white eye or crown which is diamond shaped and is present in the middle of the skin. The skin has a natural shine.Sanding the top of the stingray produces shinier, smoother skin.
Due to its ultra durability & superior quality it can last for 4 decades easily.Stingray leather is extremely wear-resistant and unlike most leathers, it is also scratch resistant. Not only will your stingray leather last a long time, but also stays looking good as new.
Stingray leather's natural durability and resistance means it won't need to be treated as frequently as other leathers. Its distinct surface is also easier to clean. Wiping the leather with a damp clean cloth is recommended. To keep it healthy, it can also be lightly conditioned.
Working with stingray leather is one of the more difficult tasks. Calcium nodules are notorious for damaging tools due to their firmness thus, making it difficult for the tools to penetrate. The tough skin makes it difficult and potentially dangerous to punch through.
