Ostrich leather has a bumpy texture due to the remaining quill follicles. These remaining quill bumps give the leather its iconic look and can be flattened for a more even surface.It is extremely pliable. Its flexibility makes it an attractive choice for bags or other goods requiring bending. It does not crease or crack as easily as other leathers.Despite having a bumpy texture, this leather is soft to the touch. Its flexible nature makes the leather feel somewhat squishy.
Due to the stretchy and uneven nature of the skin, ostrich leather can be extremely challenging to sew. As this leather is extremely supple, it causes the material to bunch easily while sewing.
Ostrich leather is considered to be 5 times stronger than cowhide.It also has natural oils and fats that prevent it from becoming too dry, even with prolonged exposure to sunlight. The leather does not easily crack despite its soft feel.
Ostrich Leather will become increasingly soft with use and acquire a subtle shine.It can easily last up to 3 decades.
There is no limit to the colors available for ostrich leather. Since it's chromium based, a large variety of colors & shades are available in this leather.
Ostrich leather is exotic, but it requires the same maintenance as cowhide. It will require leather-specific conditioners and cleaners. Due to the natural oils and fats of ostrich skin, the leather may remain hydrated for a longer time.
